Marine Veteran’s Depression Leads To Attempted

Marine Veteran’s Depression Leads To Attempted

Description

4,847 views May 1, 2023 U.S. Marines

This week’s Urban Valor episode features Marine veteran Joel Ramirez. He grew up in Salem, Oregon, and found himself getting into many fights. Joel enlisted into the National Guard; however, his older brother was enlisted in the Marines and forced Joel to retract his enlistment so he could also go to the Marines. He enlisted into the Marine Corps as an 0311 Rifleman. Joel had a rough time as a new Marine and endured a lot of hazing. He had the opportunity to experience many different cultures overseas. Upon transitioning out, Joel found himself depressed and attempted suicide by cop. Eventually, he pulled himself out of the darkness and began attending paralegal school to be able to help veterans through what he’s experienced.

What a great story, I think all vets are still transitioning. It's hard not having my brothers around still to this day. I got out in 2018 and it's still not the same. Only thing that works is being around other vets. I'm glad you found the help! Keep sharing your story brother.

What the hell is the Corp becoming? All the hazing. You went through boot and when your done it's time to build up with positivity and training-like this channel. . Hazing is negativity and can be a horrible cancer.

Salem, Oregon isn't necessarily the middle of no where. But I suppose back then maybe?
